MQA Headlines
- Congratulations to the MQA Knightbots. Our school participated in May Madness Robotics Competition sponsored by CMU's Robotics Academy. There were 25 teams that participated in the event. The team was judged on a research presentation, the software programming done by the students, the robot's design or hardware, and for robotic performance on the tabletop missions. This year's missions were based on Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. They included moving the robot to deliver and retrieve items, moving the robot to hit levers, and even having the robot "read" colors and play a tune! Our presentation crew included Sam , C.J. , Josh , David , and Austin. Our robotics crew included Cailin , Thomas , Gabe , Ricky , Ben , and Zachary. MQA Knightbots got a 1st Place Award for Robotic Performance!
- Students from grades 6-8 at Mary Queen of
Apostles School, New Kensington, participated in the
Westmoreland Interscholastic Reading Competition
held March 18, 2007 at Seton Hill University,
Greensburg. The MQA team, The Bookworms” received
first place ribbons in three rounds which placed
them third overall in the competition. There were
over 40 team competing. .
The following student read 40 books and were quizzed on them at the competition: Grade 8: Kathryn , Natalie , and Cecily ; Grade 7: Megan , Stephanie , David , and Erin ; Grade 6: Gabe , Amanda , Megan Christ, Katelin , Eric , and Brianna.
Student advisor/moderator is Dayna Orlowski.

The Westmoreland County Music Educators
Association Fifth and Sixth Grade
Band Festival, made up by students from 18 schools in the county, took place
on April 25th at Jeannette Senior High School. Two six grade flute players,
Abigail and Juliana represented MQA School by participating
in the concert.
Congratulations to our representatives and to Mr. Talarovich!
- Congratulations to our MQA PRSEF competitors! On April 4th and 5th seven students from the 7th and 8th grade participated in the 69th Annual Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair held at Heinz Field. This year there were over 1,000 participants in this annual gathering of scientists. Click here for more info.
- This year's May Queen is Kathryn . She will be attended by Cecily . The 8th grade girls will be May Court. Mary Crowning and Living Rosary will be held at St. Margaret Mary Church on Thursday, May 8, 2008, at 7:00 P.M.
- Joey is the recipient of this year's American Legion Award which is given to an eighth grade student. Joey was selected by his peers as well as the Faculty for the following categories: Honor, Americanism, Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Courage.
- Mrs. Cheryl Kestner has been selected to receive the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh Excellence in Teaching Award for the 2007-08 school year! Catherine M. Collett, was her nominator. They are both invited to attend a banquet on May 21 at Duquesne University.
- Sabrina (4th grade) is our spelling bee winner
for the 2008 school year. She will represent MQA at
the Diocesan Spelling Bee this spring.

- The 6th grade class has a summer community
service project. They formed
a team, The MQA Knights, and will participate in the American Cancer
Society's Relay For Life August 2nd to 3rd. Their first fund raiser activity is
the sale of the multi-colored cancer awareness bracelets. To order please
send in the form by April 18th to ensure delivery for Mother's
Day. The cost is $15.00 and all checks made payable to the American Cancer
Society. Thank you for your support! Watch for their many community activities
this spring & summer! - Congratulations to the students in grades 1, 2, and 3 who were the first ever MQA School Grade Level Winners of the Zaner Bloser National Handwriting Contest. Thanks to their teachers Mrs. Hadley, Mrs. Hetu, and Mrs. Marsili, too!
