On April 4th and 5th seven students from the 7th and
8th grade participated in the 69th Annual Pittsburgh
Regional Science and Engineering Fair held at Heinz
Field. This year there were over 1,000 participants
in this annual gathering of scientists.
-
Joey received a sponsor award from the
Carnegie Museum of Pittsburgh and a cash award of
$50 for his work in the area of physics where he
investigated whether weight affects the acceleration
of an atwood machine. His project was entitled
Weight vs Acceleration.
-
Holly received a sponsor award from the
Department of the Navy’s office of Naval Research
for her research in the field of microbiology on the
best way to wash an apple. Holly received a metal
for her work entitled “Natural vs Chemical”.
-
Megan received a collegiate Award
sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh for her
research in the field of microbiology on the
effectiveness of topical antiseptics. Megan’s
project was entitled “Ouch”.
-
David received an honorable mention in
science excellence for his physics research entitled
“The Panel Predicament” where he investigated what
affects the energy created by solar panels. David
received a cash award of $20 as well as a metal.
-
Aaron received a second place award in the
area of physics for his research concerning how
aerodynamic design affects a vehicle’s velocity.
Aaron received a cash award of $75 for his project
entitled “How Design Affects Velocity” as well as a
metal.
-
Ashley presented her research in the field
of microbiology to determine which mouthwash was
most effective in eliminating bacteria. Her project
was entitled “How Effective is your mouthwash.”
-
Jack presented his research in the field
of physics to determine if construction had an
effect on the distance that a golf ball travels. His
project was entitled “Construction vs Distance”.
-
Jenna presented her research in the field of
chemistry to determine which antiperspirant absorbs
the most moisture. Jenna’s project was entitled “Got
Stink?”
-
Congratulations to all participants for a job well
done! Thanks to Mrs. Cheryl Kestner, the sponsor for
