Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Regional Competition
Three 8th grade students from Mary Queen of Apostles School recently participated in the 89th Annual Region 7 Competition help at Baldwin High School. All three students received a first-place award and will present their science research project in May at Penn State University. Vanessa Ibrahim also received a $100 director’s award in Zoology for her project on “The Effect of Caffeine on the Heart Rate of Daphnia Magna” and Logan Polito received the Duane Keenan Memorial Award (also for $100) for his zoology experiment. Logan’s project was “Does the Magnetic Field Effect the Hatching Rate of Brine Shrimp?” Louisa Palumbo’s research project was in the field of chemistry where she tested “The Effect of Baking Powder on the Fluffiness of Gluten Free Pancakes.” A special thank you to Dr. Glenn Rapsinski for his assistance with statistics.
