Fine Arts at Mary Queen of Apostles include a weekly art class for students in kindergarten through eighth grade; a weekly general music class for those in kindergarten through fifth grade; a weekly liturgical music class for K-8; general music or chorus for sixth graders; and an option for music credit in grades seventh and eighth by selecting chorus or music exploration. MQA also offers free instrumental lessons for students in fourth through eighth grades. MQA has an excellent band program that meets during the school day. Two extra-curricular options are forensics, or public speaking, and fall musical.
Students in grades 4-8 participate in the Missionary Childhood Association Christmas card contest featuring 24 cards chosen annually from dioceses across the country. Over the past years, MQA students have had eight cards chosen as winners. Art classes are filled with creativity and varied medium with the projects decorating our halls.
MQA is once again presenting a fall musical through our drama department. This group of dedicated teachers and student alumni have developed a summer workshop and musical program using our talented student cast and crew.
Our band and chorus present concerts at Christmas and in the spring. Small group instrumental lessons are offered in all band instruments. Instrumentalists have a recital and our general music classes include voice, musical notation, Orff, harmonica, and recorders as part of the curriculum.
Students also attend liturgical music classes that prepare them for worship at our weekly liturgies.
An extra-curricular forensics club meets to allow students the opportunity to explore the varied types of oral presentations in the categories of drama, impromptu, prose, poetry, declamation, and multiple reading. Students present relying on their voice and facial expressions. It is entertaining and fun.
