Academic Resources for Your Child
Mary Queen of Apostles School has quite a few resources that are available to you at home, too. These could be used for general information, for research, for building skills, and to practice sites connected to our textbook series in religion, spelling, and vocabulary.
Discovery Education
Discovery Education is an amazing, safe site. This is a safe, child-friendly search engine and a site that can be used to find general information on any topic. It is a closed site that is funded by the diocese through the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit. It is developed for students. The materials that can be found on this site include images, full videos and video clips, articles, encyclopedia articles, games, maps, simulations, activities, audio clips, events, and on and on! The site can be searched by subject, by a key word, and by grade level. It is nice to have a list of things that are appropriate for the age of a child. It even provides the information needed to cite what is used for reports so that a bibliography or works cited page is easily completed. Sometimes teachers may link videos that are to be watched to the site. But generally, onced logged in, the area for research is in the section called Streaming found near the top of the page. The login user name for our school is iu7np.mqa.student and the password is provided to the children in school. Please email the principal or the computer teacher if your child cannot remember the password. The site is good for all ages and all grade levels. There is a link on the home page to this site, it is so important!
iSafe
iSafe is an online training program that is available to teachers, students, and parents. All teachers at MQA are certified in iSafe. Parents can view videos and go through training sessions by creating an account with iSafe. Parents can view lessons in iParent and i50+. This is under the section called Outreach & Parents on the iSafe site. Access to the iSafe site is found on the home page in the bottom, right corner.
Spelling, Vocabulary, and Religion Textbook Sites
There are sites for each of these subjects that help students prepare for tests, study, learn online, complete practice tests, and even play games. The links for these sites are found on the Student Resources menu.
